Dear Tia,

Our fight to protect American horses is not over!

This Thursday, July 20, the Senate Appropriations Committee will vote on the Udall-Graham Amendment to the FY18 Agriculture Appropriations bill, the amendment that would prevent the opening of horse slaughter plants in the United States. We need to encourage our champions in the Senate and convince those who are undecided to support this language.

Last week, the House version of this amendment failed in the House Appropriations Committee. Our victory in the Senate is vital to keeping these plants closed in the U.S.
We are contacting you today because your senator sits on this important committee. He or she needs to hear your voice and know that their constituents want to see all horses, both wild and domestic, protected from this grisly industry.

American horses are facing a serious threat, and this iconic American animal needs your voice today. Please take a moment today, tomorrow and Thursday morning to call your Senator!
Please check the list below to find your Senator serving on the Committee—you may have more than one! Then call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Senator’s office or check their websites for their D.C. office phone number.

Here’s an example of what you can tell the receptionist when you place your call: "Hello. I am your constituent residing in [town and state]. I’m calling to urge Senator [your Senator’s last name] to support the Udall-Graham Amendment in the Agriculture Appropriations bill to protect American horses from slaughter. As a constituent, I do not want my tax dollars wasted subsidizing this harmful and inhumane treatment of American icons. Thank you.

If we overwhelmingly show our support, our senators will have no choice but to make sure this language is included in the final budget bill when it is agreed to with the House. Please visit www.aspca.org/helphorses for some more information or email us at Grassroots@ASPCA.org.

Please be sure to ask your family and friends in the states listed above to also place a quick call to their senator(s). We are working furiously in DC to ensure horses are protected from slaughter and this shameful industry does not return to our shores, but we cannot win this battle without you!
