A forlorn chihuahua, confined to a hen house for being “aggressive.” A frightened terrier, locked in a metal cage and surrounded by his own waste, with no indication of ever having been let out. Two parrots with severely deformed, atrophied legs due to
inadequate space.
Today, the once-neglected animals are safe after Humane Society International/Latin America and the National Animal Health Service of Costa Rica rescued them from overcrowded, inadequate conditions on a Costa Rican farm.

Many of the dogs were beagles, used by their owner to hunt wildlife. They had skin conditions and showed signs of malnutrition.. The exotic birds, also in ill health, were likely intended for sale. with no access to clean drinking water or veterinary care.

Now, these animals have received proper veterinary care and will be rehomed. The dogs will be spayed or neutered before being put up for adoption and the birds will be rehabilitated and cared for by professionals, with the aim of releasing them back into the wild. We hope that their terrible past will soon be a distant memory.

These dogs and birds won’t be forced to struggle through a single day more of the utter misery they endured for so long.
