When Nestor was born, he was as small as most puppies ... he was unable to see or hear ... and he was totally dependent on his mother.
So when his mother was frightened away from their den by logging activity, Nestor and his brother and two sisters were suddenly alone.
Four motherless baby bears would have quickly starved to death or died from exposure to the cold Russian winter.
Luckily, the cubs were rescued and brought to our Bear Rescue Center. It was their best chance to survive and to one day be released back to the wild.
Every year baby bears are orphaned and left to die!
