Update!!!!!! Horse slaughter plants in every state in our nation is an aberration, not to say the least.. For all of us this was an appalling act on our government to have funds designated for this particular inhumane slaughter of our horses. Many of the organizations, e.g. PETA, Center for Biological Diversity, ASPCA and many more sent out petitions and asked for help... I also blogged and was able to give everyone the petition to sign, share and links through the help of ASPCA to FB your State Representative to support the FARR-DENT amendment not to appropriate funds for this travesty... Here is your answer......

The success of the Farr-Dent amendment in the April 19th Agriculture Appropriations Committee, prohibiting funding for horse slaughter plants, proved that our communities throughout our nation did not fall victim to this sensationalism.  Everyone paid attention to where our tax dollars were going and made sure  OUR VOICES were heard.  In my State of Florida, Charlotte County,  Representative Rooney listened.  I personally visited and spoke to his staff and wrote messages on his FB page.  I am sure many of our State Representatives listen and acknowledged us as the VOICE OF THE PEOPLE.

While acknowledging complexity of the issue,  State Representatives made it clear that their  constituents were opposed to horse slaughter and that their actions would reflect that. Obviously Rooney’s commitment to his constituents is not gone here in Florida and those of you who reached out to your Representative, in your state,  we must trust that they too made a right decision to support  this amendment, as we  the PEOPLE  must make are VOICES HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR. as WE must not let it be forgotten, we elected them into office and we speak for those who are "VOICELESS'

Mahalo to everyone who helped support the Farr-Dent Amendment, but we have many other crucial issues facing us, especially with the US Fish and Wildlife Services, as they go ROGUE!!!!! (wolves, black bears, mountain lions, and more) Endangered means nothing to them...........

Urgent... News from PETA.. 33000 baby Harp Seals slaughtered this year alone, please when you view the video your heart will break, very graphic, please sign and share asap... "WE ARE THEIR VOICE' we can stop one of the most inhumane slaughters of baby seals. Mahalo

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society... Those of you who remember Bridgitte Bardot, she was
very out spoken about our Baby Harp Seals, not only for PETA, but for many of the other organizations.
She herself with Captain Paul Watson, and his Sea Shepherd Conservation Society had their...
Seal Campaign.  Paul Watson brought Brigitte to visit the baby seals, during the time of slaughter, and
they then decided with Paul Watson, along with his crew members to spray red dye all of the baby seals.
Many were arrested this was 1977, and I remember this campaign as it was
yesterday. Bridgitte Bardot visited Canada and was vigil on her crusade to stop this slaughter.
Those of you who do not know Paul Watson.... Captain Paul Watson is the world's most aggressive,
most determined, most active and most effective defender of wildlife."
We must stop this slaughter........ NOW

We have not had a celebrity, that is so involved in campaigning for ANIMAL RIGHTS, and
stopping this barbaric slaughter since................  BRAVO BRIDGITTE BARDOT....

  • 33,600: the number of seals who have been slaughtered so far this year on the ice floes off Canada's east coast
  • 400,000: the number of harp seals allowed to be killed in this year's commercial seal slaughter
These numbers may be hard to swallow, but they are the grim reality of Canada's commercial seal slaughter.

And there's hope: Canada's new prime minister, Justin Trudeau, is supportive of many social issues, and we're now urging him to extend his compassion further and usher in a new era of kindness and fiscal responsibility by ending federal subsidies of the commercial seal slaughter.
Take Action Now
Thank you for taking action against Canada's commercial seal slaughter. Please share this alert on Facebook and Twitter.

Sincerely,

PETA

HORSE SLAUGHTER AGAIN FOR 2017.... WE STILL HAVE TIME TO STOP THE RE-OPENING OF HORSE SLAUGHTER PLANTS THROUGHOUT EVERY STATE IN THE UNION. Horse slaughter is the most inherently inhumane action against a horse. Horses' instinctual flight response makes them ill suited for stunning. They will endure repeated blows to head and body and can remain conscious during dismemberment. The US Department of Agriculture documented rampant cruelty and barbaric action violations when horse slaughterhouses were operating throughout the U.S. The USDA reports that over 92% of the horses sent to slaughter are healthy animals that can lead a full life in loving homes. Horsemeat is unsafe for human consumption, do to the fact that they are not raised for food in this country. More than 80% of American voters do oppose the slaughter of these peaceful and productive animals and definitely not for human consumptions. We need to fight this bill for funding every year until the SAFE ACT is put in place to prohibit all slaughter of horses in the United States and their export to other countries for the purpose of SLAUGHTER!!!!!!! PLEASE SHARE, CALL OR FACEBOOK YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE... ARE VOICES CAN BE HEARD THROUGHOUT THE NATION.... LET'S DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAHALO

In just a matter of a month the House of Representatives will be voting on a measure to allow horse slaughter plants to re-open in this country. JUST in time for this vote, a compelling new study was released.

See Below.. Please do this for HORSES!!

Let them know that Edge Research study is showing that there are over 2.3 million homes available to take in and care for horses in need. With approximately 125,000 horses going to slaughter in 2016, and maybe more for 2017, these numbers indicate that there are more than enough homes for horses who are being sent to slaughter. Please consider this information and support the Farr-Dent Amendment to the Agriculture Appropriations Bill!

Urge China to Ban the Trade in Seal Products
Dear Friend,

Unfortunately, it's that time of year again. The Canadian commercial seal slaughter has started.

The good news is, the campaign to close the global markets for seal products is working. More than 35 nations have prohibited trade in seal products and prices for seal fur in Canada have crashed.

But the Canadian government won't let go of this cruel industry and now, they want China to become a dumping ground for seal products. If China says no to commercial seal products, it could be the final straw: it would be even more clear that the annual slaughter -- already subsidized -- just isn't worth it anymore.

Please join Chinese citizens in urging their government to stop the trade in products of the commercial seal slaughter.

HORSE SLAUGHTER IN THE US....... This is a very important issue for all Americans if this law goes into effect every state in our union will have a Horse Slaughter Industry Plant. Each year, more than 100,000 American horses—working, racing and companion horses and even children’s ponies—are inhumanely transported long distances in cramped trailers without food, water or rest. Then they are brutally slaughtered, and their meat is shipped overseas for human consumption. The majority of these horses are young, healthy animals. In January of 2014 Congress blocked this bill and no Horses were to be slaughtered. We need to do this again, please sign the petitions, speak with your Representatives to Amend this Bill and stop HORSE SLAUGHTER!!!!!.

Horse slaughter for human consumption has not occurred here since 2005, but if  our Representative's do not ensure that no federal funds go to reopening the plants, cattle farmers will face a serious problem. When horsemeat fraudulently labeled as beef, probably because it is cheaper for supermarket suppliers than real beef, was discovered across EU in 2013, this was a huge scandal.  Newspapers reported that frozen beef sales dropped more than 40%.  If horse meat is produced here in the US, it could easily infiltrate our food supply, accidentally or fraudulently.  There are many State Representatives who are incredible advocates for our horses and the cattle industry.  So I urge everyone to make sure your State Representative in your District knows your feelings and the outrage that will be felt throughout the United States.  I have witnessed slaughter on the ranches of Hawaii, it is so violent, and it feels like your heart is totally torn out of your own body.  One never forgets the screams....... of the animals!!!!!

I have personally helped and wrote letters to 3 newspapers in my state and addressed them to the Editor -in-Chief, and spoke to our Representative's staff and urged to help AMEND and or STOP this DEVASTATING LAW, our horses need our protection, just as much as our dogs, cats, wolves, lions, and all of our animal species.  I have attached a Fact Sheet from the ASPCA for your information....  Please lets do our job,  Mahalo

Support the Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act (H.R. 1942 / S. 1214)
Protect America’s horses from the cruelty of slaughter and protect consumers from toxic horsemeat.

The Safeguard America Act was introduced in the House by Reps. Frank Guinta (R-NH), Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Vern Buchanan (R-FL), and Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM), and in the Senate by Sens. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), and Susan Collins (R-ME).

What will the SAFE Act do? The SAFE Act will prohibit the slaughter of horses for human consumption in the U.S. and their export for that purpose. This bill will also protect consumers from exposure to toxic horsemeat. Does horse slaughter differ from other slaughter? Horse slaughter is especially inhumane because horses, skittish by nature, are extremely difficult to stun. They often endure repeated blows to the head and sometimes are alive and kicking during dismemberment. USDA inspectors cited rampant cruelty violations at plants previously operating in the U.S. How does horsemeat differ from other meat? American horses are not raised for food. Over their lifetimes they are routinely given hundreds of drugs and other substances (legal and illegal) that have not been approved by the FDA for use in animals intended for human consumption. A recent New York Times article emphasized the hodgepodge of drugs regularly administered to American race horses and the resulting food safety threats: “Laboratories cannot yet detect the newest performance-enhancing drugs [used in horse racing], while trainers experiment with anything that might give them an edge, including … cobra venom, Viagra, blood doping agents, stimulants and cancer drugs.” The shocking discovery of horsemeat in beef products in the U.K. and the European Union forecasted the threat to American health that could result if horse slaughter proponents were successful in bringing the grisly business back to the U.S. More recently, the European Union (EU) banned imports of horse meat from Mexico to the EU as of January 1, 2015 after a scathing audit of EU-certified Mexican horse slaughter plants, which kill tens of thousands of American horses each year.

The report stresses that because horses are not raised as food producing animals in Mexico or the United States, but are instead considered companion animals and partners in work and sport, they are routinely given many medications that are illegal for use in food animals. The audit also found gross deficiencies in horse welfare protections throughout the Mexican horse slaughter system. How do horse slaughter plants affect communities? Slaughter plants inflict environmental damage, drain local economies, and diminish property values. The minimal number of low-paying, dangerous jobs that slaughter plants offer cannot compensate for the enormous environmental and financial burdens on surrounding communities.

What do Americans think about horse slaughter? A 2012 national poll revealed that 80% of Americans favor a ban on horse slaughter and acknowledge our responsibility to protect these intelligent, sensitive animals from slaughter. Horses are our companions and a historically significant part of American culture. We owe them a kinder, more dignified end of life than to be cruelly slaughtered and served up on foreign dinner plates.
